For followers of the blog, you may remember that in an earlier post (H is for Hope), I told you the story of my Echium, an exotic plant from Guernsey that is striving to acheive its Dharma a long way from home in the wilds of North Yorkshire…
Well, I have news – this morning I saw the first flowers beginning to unfurl, and I’m overjoyed! My Echium’s cousins down in the sunny isle of Guernsey have long since flowered and set seed, but mine is just starting – in August – and will doubtless bring much joy to the hoverflies and bees in the garden, as well as to myself, before it sets its own seeds, thus fulfilling its purpose in the cycle of life…
So there’s a metaphor here – an important metaphor for life. With enough Faith, Gratitude and Hope, we can achieve miracles – even when we are moving towards our own autumn, and achieving our Dharma still feels a long way off.
I will be 60 later this year; no longer in the May of my life, and I still don’t feel I have quite found my Dharma yet – but I’m taking this as a message that there is still time.
And even without that insight, I would still be grateful for the joy that my Echium brings to me; it’s going to be so stunningly beautiful.
