Well, we hadn’t planned it, but on Saturday we had a totally unexpected 12-hour round trip to Wales to collect a very special, tiny lady…

Violet has joined the family – another little soul from Friends of Animals Wales, whom Kerri thought should be with us; and from the first moment we saw her we knew Kerri was right; Violet is bringing back the joy to our household after the sudden loss of beautiful Mungo last year.

It’s only her third day with us, so she is still busy settling in; the girls are eyeing her lively shenanigans slightly askance, but she is very happy little girl… She is very much a lap-dog; a tiny, chocolate coloured Imperial Shih Tzu, who loves nose-kisses and running around like a mad thing – she will fit right in!

Her foster-parents were really lovely – they had four Schnauzers, so we knew Violet would get on well with Winnie! She had only been with them for about 3 weeks and had clearly stolen their hearts – they were really sad to see her go.

So far, she has shown a profound fascination with the garden, and has managed to avoid the pond. She has also developed a deep love for a small plush donut from the toy basket that no longer squeaks – but you can tell where she is from the little popping noises it emits instead…

This time, we haven’t chosen her name – Violet is the name she had in her previous home, where she was much loved. I looked up the meaning – Violet is associated with ‘beauty, faithfulness, spirituality and royalty’, apparently; beauty and faithfulness she most certainly has already and I am sure her spirituality will begin to shine as she does… and royalty? Well after all she is an Imperial Shih Tzu, so I guess that comes with the territory!

Violet’s Teachings So Far:

  • New folks are friends in the making.
  • Always take the opportunity for sleep when it is offered.
  • Wherever you end up, assume it will be good; if we look for the good stuff, we are likely to find it.
